Greetings,

After switching to Don Starr's lovely Win96 program I worked up a load using the extended frequency capability to try to listen to the Gun Barrel site. (cc- 774.84375)
My daily commute takes me within 1/2 mile and line-of-site to the tower.

I could clearly hear the control channel. However I never saw the packet rate higher than 80% and mostly more like 70%. Even line-of-sight.

I could listen to it from my desk at work but I never heard it trunk.

I programmed the channels for the site and if I set the radio to manual on a channel I could clearly hear some traffic. But I never saw it trunk.

I'm concluding that there's something about the trunking that's different in this freq range so it's not going to trunk properly?

Am I right? Did you guys already know this? Or am I missing something?

Pro-96 will not track 700Mhz CC's at all. You can scan them conventional but no tracking

Clarification

It seemed like my radio wouldn't stop on them at all unless I put it manually on channel. Should they be FM mode rather than MOT?

Thanks!

Like mpg0515 stated, the 96 will not trunk a 700 Mhz Control Channel, however you could scan the channels associated with the trunk site by inputting the voice channels and scanning them conventionally but you wont be able to see TG’s or really know who’s talking. Luckly most sites associated with the Colorado DTRS system are 800 Mhz (with the exception of a few northern sites). Sorry there's no fancy trick to making it work, and I would be curious as to how you're getting a data rate off a 700 Mhz site with a pro-96 even with the extended frequencies enabled in win96.

You could give your pro-96 to me and purchase a new PSR-500 or a 996T, both do a great job working 700 Mhz sites. LOL

Well, you would have to have all of the voice freqs programmed and then have the CC either locked out or not programmed at all, then scan. Like radiowatcher said, no TG info will be displayed. Gunbarrel is kind of a dead CC anyway. I would use Thorodin as a replacement as it has only 800Mhz channels. I have a 396 as well as a 96. Haven't really put the 396 to much use with 700Mhz CC's yet, but I'm sure the future of that band will be coming.

To answer your question, FM would be the mode you want it on in conventional. It will automatically detect that it is an APCO-25 signal and decode it.

Your not missing much Gun Barrel is a pretty quiet site, almost as slow as Betasso.
