Way overpriced.

It's the lowest priced P25 scanner out there...even at it's MSRP. You have to take into consideration a good portion of a P25 scanner's price is the license fee for the P25 technology.

I have been using scanners for 50 years and the Pro 96 is the best scanner I have ever owned. It is simple to program and it has run continuous now for 3 years without one issue. The only shortcoming is it lacks LTR. $399.00 is a great price for this unit.

Actually it was not a scanner per se. It was a two crystal receiver that I used to monitor two fire bands. My dad was a fireman on the Erie, Pa fire department and a radio reporter built the "scanner" for me.

Cool! I'm tempted to get a 2096 this time around.
I got a PRO-96 when it was on sale back in November. But when I had it side-by-side next tot he 2096 I got for my mom for Xmas, the 2096 picked up channels much quicker - maybe the stock antenna is that much better than the stubby one on the 96?
Anyway, I'm tempted to get the 2096 and put the 96 in the bedroom or basement for a second location.

I wish I still had mine - it was a four channel job. Loved those LED lights scanning across the front display.

I have a BCD396T and compared to the Pro-96, I like the 396 for day to day use. (just my preference, not trying to start a flame war).

That being said, I think I would rather have the Pro-96 in my truck because of the V-Folders. I travel from my home to other cities on a regular basis, and having the V-Folders would be awesome! Being able to call up a totally different set up is one of the best features of the Pro-96, in my opinion. If I had an extra $399, I would definately get one. The receive is great! Great Audio! Just an all around good scanner.

What's crazy is its inability to do LTR. I mean previous versions of RS scanners can do LTR - so the fact that they drop LTR in lieu of P25 isn't acceptable. And I didn't really think about this til today. I'm glad I didn't get one. I would have been really disappointed to find out a month after buying it that I couldn't screw around with LTR in a top of the line scanner.

Yes the lack of LTR is difficult to understand. It is preventing me from buying the 2096 and may buy the BCD396T so that I have complete coverage.

Great Audio is in the ear of the Beholder! lol,I think they could have used a better speaker myself, but I'm just one Beholder with an ear..... or two!Other than that I love the radio.I did just put in an amplified Radio Shack speaker (21-541) in my truck, and that thing makes a huge difference.

scanners unlimited has it on sale for $379, don't know what shipping costs.
Radio Shack PRO-96 and PRO-2096 on Sale for $ 379.95 each

I like the 97 but with no LTR or 700mhz on the 96, I would have to consider the 396 instead.

Don't need LTR so it's not an issue - a month later?
