Since the thread on this topic is closed I want to put a discovery into the database that pertains.
The original fact was that the Pro-96 works best if you put a conventional FM frequency on a channel in between two control channels on a multi-cc system.
I seem to see this result as well.
Since I have lots of frequencies programmed into my local FD/PD bank I put the County Sheriff frequencies in between the tower freqs.
I programmed these county freqs with their CTCSS tones.
Turns out that the tone function is a huge time delay in scanning!
It was so bad I thought my local trunked PD had disappeared! (posting in the Colorado regional group).
I still have a few channels with tones programmed where there is a dead carrier that will capture the radio in certain places but now with most of the tones and settings back to FM my radio behaves much, much better.
