If it is a new scanner, its empty (for the most part) the freq's that are 'pre programmed' are virtually useless. You are going to want to enter your own frequencies. Read the manual, again again and again. It WILL help you out. Then to make life MUCH easier, go to
www.starrsoft.com and download win97. Then go to radio shack, and get the usb programming cable, spend the few bucks , its worth it. Next, go to the radio reference database and look up the frequencies for your area. Enter them into the win97 program (freq's & text tags) and upload them to your scanner via the usb cable from RS.
To make life even easier, become a paid member of this site and you will be able to download everything you need, right from the database here, and upload it to your scanner that way.
