is there any way or any mod available to have the backlight stay on all the time or make it squelch activated???................thanks

Click and hold the backlight button for a couple seconds to make it stay on all the time. But It cannot turn itself on when there is a signal while scanning. It can turn on by itself when there is a signal only in MANual mode.

Can't make it squelch activated in scan mode, to keep it on all the time hold the light button for a couple of sec until it beeps.
There are backlight settings hit the light button at startup screen, that lets you select time it's on or whether or not the first keypress turns it on or not. Something like that experiment with the settings. The up/down keys change the setting ENT keeps the setting

Your batteries will die twice as fast than without the backlight. I wouldn't worry too much about the backlight life since they are diodes and they last for a LONG time.

One more comment FWIW. Once you press and hold LIT to turn the back light ON constantly. If you put the scanner into MAN mode, when it goes into power save mode the light will be turned off. When the scanner receives a signal, and comes out of power save mode, the light will turn on. I realize this is certainly not what we want, but it is one way to have the light come on only when there is a signal.

Note: When held on a trunked talkgroup the scanner does not go into power save mode because it is actually still scanning.
