Hello,

I just purchased this scanner, and I love it, except for one nasty feature. And who knows, I may have activated it somehow, but if I monitor one frequency, which has not activity, the scanner goes into a power save mode. I'm not a fan of this feature, as it misses transmissions or beginning of transmissions.

Anyway to turn if off?

Thanks,
John

There is no user way to turn the power saver on or off!!!!! It is preprogrammed into the CPU to act this way. You can bypass this feature by putting the scanner into the program mode on the channel you wish to monitor.

Enjoy

Now I've found something that I don't like about this scanner :<

I love the Signal Stalker II for MILAIR, works real well around my local base.

I love the signal clarity and sensitivity.

I'm not crazy about programming a channel as priority just to sit on it :<

Thanks for the help,

John

Since it will only go into power save mode when in <MANual> setting, you can set up a bank (assuming you have the room) with just one or two prime frequencies that you want to monitor and scan them. For example, here I have a bank set up with 16 channels of Houston PD and the local air coordination unicom frequency (low level flight over the city). I have set all the channels to be locked out except my local district (Westside), the car-2-car (simplex) and the air frequency. When I scan it never goes into power save and generally I hear only my district communication (with the occasional helicopter overhead or nearby simplex comm).

Thanks Lou,

I am one of those frequency hogs. I use up most of the available channels, so this wouldn't work well for me. I ran into an opportunity today, where I wanted to listen, or sit on one frequency :<

Luckily, I had my PRO-96 with me so, I was able to sit with it, and let the PRO-97 continue scanning for the other related activity....

John,

You don't have to program it as a priority channel, just press PGM (Program) as suggested above while on the channel to keep the power save mode from activating.

The only down side I've found to using this technique is that when in PGM mode CT tone squelch is disabled.

Another way to get around the power save mode is to use the Skywarn channels 997-999. Just be careful because there's a software bug in the 97 if you select a Skywarn channel while the radio is currently in power save mode.

Here's my previous post with the info:

Dan,

Thanks for clarifying for me. I didn't put 2 and 2 together on the Program reference. I'm trying it out right now.

Interesting post about the bug. I experienced that too, while I was trying to figure out how to turn off the power save mode. I was driving at the time, and not paying full attention to the new layout, and I know that I hit the WX button at least once during the key fumbling. My scanner went deaf, even though I turned on and off individual banks, etc. I finally powered off and on, and it fixed the problem. Now I know what's going on ... sort of :)
