Hi friends
I used to live in Saint simons island Georgia. My best friend lived there too. He moved to Athens Georgia . I am thinking of sending him my used Pro95 should I get the PSR-500 for Christmas . He's never owned a scanner. And only took an interest in the hobby as a result of my interest. I know that the Athens/Clarke county trunked system is conventional . Would this be a good "starter" scanner for him? Thanks

Steve

The pro-95 is a great anolog trunking scanner. if your friend would choose to do so, he could purchase a programming cable and download win95 for free. that would make programming alot easier

I listen to A-CC's and UGA's trunked systems with a Pro 95 and it does a great job. The only caveat is that when rebanding takes place, the Pro 95 won't work.

I highly recommend the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna, catalog # 20-283, to go along with the Pro 95. It really improves 800 MHz reception.

Thanks for the feedback . .I realize that the rebanding issue is going to rear it's ugly head for a lot, at some point. I am just thinking short term for him .Since he's never been involved in the hobby at all .Should I get the PSR500 he'll get my Pro95.And I'll include the 800 mhz antenna.

Side note. It was a friend in the early 80's that came over with a four channel crystal controlled scanner that sparked my interest in the hobby.
