I've programmed in 3 control channels of my local county's Smartnet II system along with about 8 talkgroup ID# and text identifying their names.

When I scan it picks up and shows the control freq. I've put into the channel but does not display what Talkgroup is talking - I can hear them fine.

Has anyone experienced this, have I forgot something or does Pro97 not display that info? I thought it should.....any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Next time it is receiving a transmission on that trunked system hit "TEXT."

Also, make sure your freq and bank are both set to MOT and make sure the bank is set to CLOSED as well.

Yes, I noticed last nite that the channels were set to FM then I changed to MOT. Also it is set to OPEN - so possibly it's picking up a talkgroup that I dont have listed, right? I'll try the "TEXT" button thing next time it scans - thanks! I read the manual (again!) about CLOSED and OPEN mode and now it's all clicking - thanks!

That is correct!! When it receives transmissions are you seeing something like MOT: 02416 on the bottom line of the display? If so the text deal will fix that for you.

Here's an interesting tip:
When programming in unknown TGs (just the number) put a * after the TGID. That way, you can tell if you have found a new TG (no *) or not.

The TEXT button sequence worked - but(as per the manual) after a Talkgroup starts talking the display shows "CV" for voice calling during which you press the "trunk" button and it hold the channel or TG so you monitor it, after which I then pressed "TEXT" the text tag for the TG came up and after that when diffirent TGs started the text tags came up for them also - thanks guys!

In case you see this - I noticed that other freq.(the alternate control channels) come online even thought I didnt program in, I just programmed the 3 primary control channels for the trunk system - thought that was interesting.

I always program in ALL frequencies in a trunk, as you never really know which one might be a control channel at any moment. It's a small effort compared to losing everything on that trunk.

It is "VC" which displays to show the Voice Channel calculated (from the channel number sent on the control channel). The text tag (or frequency) of the control channel is displayed, depending on your settings.

If you press TEXT during a conversation, it will toggle between the TEXT tag of the Talkgroup ID or the ID.

DURING a transmission, if you press and hold TRUNK for 2 seconds, it will hold on that ID. You can also press PauSE to do the same thing. However, if you want to "hold" on an ID that is not transmitting; you can select MANUAL, navigate to the bank, press FUNC TRUNK, navigate to the ID and press FUNC TRUNK again. The scanner will momentarily appear to resume normal scanning, but will soon display "** ID HOLD MODE **".

Good luck.
