problem cloning pro 106 Help

I am trying to clone a 106 from my 106. After hooking up and selecting clone then right arrow, I get a message that says waiting start. Nothing happens after this. I have cloned two others without a problem. Can someone offer any suggestions as to what the problem might be. The receiving radio is new out of the box. Any help appreciated.

It seems like someone else had a similar problem which was resolved by making sure that both radios had the same firmware. To check the versions, press the 3 key while turning on the radio.

I cloned my PRO-197 from my PRO-106 with different firmware and it cloned just fine.
When you get to CLONE SEND: you push the SEL key to send.

Yep. Did that. The firmware version in the new scanner 1.8 and 1.4. Anyone have a link and comments about how it installs.

Ok. Up graded firmware in the source scanner and it now matches the receiving scanner. 1.8 and 1.4 versions. I still get the waiting start message on my source scanner. Any other ideas. Thanks.

I am ot familiar how cloning the scanners work since I had someone clone mine for me,for the upgrade firmware.

Are you using a connector of sometype? I remember reading somewhere not to use the connector part or adapter part I can't remember. But if you can connect the scanners without the pigtail part I guess thats what they call that. Try that and see what I happens. I may be thinking of something else possibly.

I just issued the clone command on my GRE-500 (same scanner) with no cable attached and got the same message. I wonder if your cable or one of the connectors is flakey.

Same cable I used a couple weeks ago. I will look to see if I have another and try that. Thanks

It could be a bad/loose connector on one of the scanners.

this is from the easy read manual for Pro 106/Pro 197/PSR 500 etc

using a cable which has a 1/8-inch stereo phone plug on both ends. Both working memory and global settings are transferred.

Turn on both radios.
Connect the cable to each scanner's PC/IF jack.
On the sending radio press PGM then GLOB.
Scroll to 'Clone Send:' and press SEL/ENT when you are ready to send to the target radio.
Press F1 (Done) on the sending radio to exit.
The target radio should(?) reboot when finished.​

That is exactly how I was doing it, but I got the waiting start message. Somehow after a few more tries it finally worked. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Cloning 2 Pro-106 scanners

Make sure you connect the 2 Pro-106 scanners with a cable that has stereo male miniplugs on both ends
not mono miniplugs.
