The WS-1095 stopped working, it was giving me an error code of 3-04. I pulled the memory card, installed a new 16 gig card that I formatted and prepped on my computer's card slot reader using the EZ Scan program, and now I get error code 3-01. I have tried removing and reinserting the memory card from the scanner several times. No good, I still get error code 3-01. Is it time to send it to Whistler for repair at this point?

Use a SanDisk sd card. Ive worked with others that have sd card failures in other radios by them and if you use other brands they won't work! Others Ive read elsewhere have had the same problem until putting in a sandisk. Gotta wonder if something in the firmware ...?

In your manual -
"03-04 Error writing SD card Reinsert the SD card to ensure it is fully inserted in locked in the SD slot. If necessary, reformat the SD card using the PC Application "Prepare SD card for use" option. Replace the SD card if the problem persists. "

"03-01 General error initializing file system Reinsert the SD card to ensure it is fully inserted in locked in the SD card slot. If necessary, reformat the SD card using the PC Application "Prepare SD Card for use" option. Replace the SD card if the problem persists"

I've also found that using a separate formatting app will work. Sometimes the format program within the software doesn't do the trick.

We all have had those pesky error codes and I haven't any memory of that anybody had to send their scanner to Whistler for a fix.

It's important that you format the card correctly, never do that in the scanner, always use a seperate SD card reader and use the SDformatter program and then do the "Prepare scanner SD card for use", in the card reader and not in the scanner.

+1, it's an SD card issue. I generally use SDFormatter to prep the cards, the one that E-Z Scan uses doesn't always do the trick. Or it may just be a bad card, that's common too.

Do windows error checking on the card, if that don't fix it, replace it with a Sandisk 8gb CLASS 4 speed only, you can get them at Amazon for less then $6ea, by 2 to have programmed spare and be sure to archive your data in ezscan.

I tried using an off-brand SD disk, and it didn't work. SO, I went back to Wallyworld and bought a 32 gig SanDisk (it was the smallest size they had) and formatted it in the laptop, reloaded the library and my scan lists , plugged it into the WS-1095, and... it worked! You're right, it must be SanDisk.

The SD card that came with my TRX-2 never worked properly whatever I did to it but I've used 3-4 different brands without any problem other then the usual ones with corrupt files, that Windows can fix, if I program or delete recordings in the scanner. I always partition SD cards no bigger than 4GB as that will hold an enormous amount of recordings and will speed up the startup procedure in Whistler scanners. I got a memory card for playstation they sold out for a dollar that where a 4GB class 4 and work no differently than the Sandisk 32GB class10 I have.

On the slower-boot-with-larger-cards subject, I have a 1095 and a 1098 working side by side. The SD card in the 1098 died first and I bought a pair of the 32-gb Sandisk cards as described above, even got them at Walmart. With the still-working 4GB card from the factory in the 1095 and the 32GB in the 1098, identical programming just different scan lists enabled, boot times were identical. The "Init SD Files" portion of the boot took longer before the screen changed with the larger card, but if I released both buttons at once (on getting the "power on release button" message), both of them did the beep...chirp thing exactly together. The other factory card has since died & been replaced, I wish I'd taken a video before that happened. I'd always presumed that a larger card would take longer to boot as well...maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I don't notice any difference in the start-up time with the new 32 gig disk than the old 4 gig disk.

I'm pretty sure it makes a difference with the handheld versions. I was just expecting the same kind of "issue" with the B/M scanners. It was a pleasant surprise when the bigger card didn't increase boot time, not that I consider that a big issue. Even if I had one of these in a vehicle I'd just start it as soon as the engine was running and by the time I was done fumbling with my seat belt and the tilt wheel it would probably be up and running.
