To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,

I'm new to DMR, CPS, and Motorola (but not new to ham).

My dealer sold me several radios (XPR7550e is the one I am currently using). They gave me CPS 2.0.

CPS seems to work fine (I can read/write to my radio). However, when people share with me their code plugs (or I download them online), I can never open them. I get an error code #24032 "To perform this operation CPS is required. Please reinstall CPS and try again. If you continue to get this message, please contact Customer Service." (I'm awaiting a reply from customer service). Anyone have any idea?

I did notice that my CPS saves code plugs as *.ctb2 and the code plugs I download or are given by friends are *.ctb but that shouldn't make any difference. I also confirmed that my CPS is backward compatible with prior versions of CPS and their code plugs.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

A simple and quick search of the internet makes it look like Motorola released a new version of CPS called "CPS2" for their MotoTRBO radios. Based on the file extensions you are referencing, I am assuming that the files that are being shared with you are files from the new CPS2 software.

Close... I have CPS2 and that saves code plugs as *.ctb2. The code plugs people are sharing with me are from earlier versions of CPS (saved as *.ctb) I couldn't find anything that relates to that error code. Were you?

Your dealer gave you CPS 2.0? Well, umm OK.

CPS 2 is backward compatible to an extent. If the firmware of the code plug is too old, the software balks in different ways. Especially 2.0.
Upgrading firmware is downright impossible if the version is too old. I try to keep older laptops running that have earlier versions of CPS so I can make firmware upgrades in steps when I find the need.

Can you request codeplugs that were made in this century?

*dealer sold it to me, along with a fleet of radios, repeaters, etc.

All the code plugs I've received from friends are all very new (a few from CPS 2, a few from CPS 1) and all on recent radios with recent firmware, so they should be perfectly compatible

So for giggles I brought up CPS 2.0 and tried loading different codeplugs. Without looking at versions, *.ctb codeplugs from my earliest in 2010 to about 2015 would not load but gave me the error "Codeplug Not Compatible". Not what you are getting. And CPS 2.0 should load any *.ctb2 file.

I think there is something missing in your install of CPS that is causing this. Your dealer is not allowed to give you or sell you a copy of CPS. My suggestion to make a MOL account, buy the latest software correctly, download, install, and go from there.

You were correct @ramal121. I installed CPS2 from a fresh install (new installer file) and now everything works. Thank you! Happy new year too. 73
