I have been listening to this system on my Unication G5 with excellent results, but in the last couple of days I got around to adding that system to my Psr800 factory updated to a WS1080. The audio just seems to catch parts of words and syllables on that system. Any others that have tried that system on a 1080, I would like to know your results, and if you found settings that improved your results. Thanks!

This would be much more useful if folks knew what system is giving you trouble. It sounds like you are having simulcast issues, and with the exception of the Uniden SDS series, no consumer scanner can handle it well. Of course this also depends on your location related to the system in question

I listen on a Radio Shack PRO668 and a GRE PSR800 on the Raleigh towers with no issues and am using default settings. As a matter of fact, I made no changes from when it was Phase 1.

Being that he is from NC and the Statewide VIPER system just made the move to Phase 2 I'm assuming this is the system he is talking about.

I'd suspect simulcast distortion based on this info alone and that your G5 has no issue. OP please reply back with what specific site(s) you are monitoring so this can be confirmed or refuted.
@radionut44 we really need to know the system you are talking about. If it is VIPER then @Whiskey3JMC is incorrect as all towers are not simulcast in your county, if it is the new Winston/Salem system then I have not monitored it and @Whiskey3JMC is most likely correct.

After looking at it, I'm betting it is the Winston/Salem system, and I stand corrected @ka3jjz.

NP RaleighGuy. It's an all too familiar issue with new simulcast systems popping up all over the place not just in NC

Too many new systems popping up in NC, get confused what is what. That said, the fact I'm listening to P2 on the PRO668 and GRE PSR800 converted to WS1080 should let OP know it isn't an issue with those scanners/upgrade in general, pointing to the simulcast issue.

Another guy nowhere in the area providing answers... :ROFLMAO:

This is almost certainly the system he is talking about:

As he is showing a location of Kernersville, NC, which is in Forsyth County, and the initials would add up, I'd say that's it.

And...it is simulcast.

You may see improvement by adjusting the Data Decode Thresholds for the system site(s) of interest.

Suggested New Settings:
Threshold Lo = 10%
Threshold Hi = 99%

Threshold Lo Sets the control channel decode % threshold for a site to be considered out of range, which will begin the process of looking for a new site (control channel). Default is 75.

Threshold Hi Sets the control channel decode % threshold for a site to be considered good when looking for a new site (control channel). Default is 95.

If trying to do this in EZ-SCAN software, you'll need to program in one of two ways:
1) Program in a "dummy site" with no frequencies and lock that site out. Change the Thresholds as indicated above for all sites.
2) Program in each individual control channel as a SITE. Change the Thresholds as indicated above for all sites.

Or you can just program in EZ-SCAN and adjust these settings manually using the scanner's menu settings.

In my experience, this greatly helps (but doesn't 100% solve) the Simulcast Distortion issue.

The Attenuation Setting may also help some.

It is the North Carolina WS/FC system, which only has 1 site AFAIK. There is no problem with the Kernersville system, which also has only a single site, I receive it fine. I will go in the menu and try the suggested threshold settings.

One site, yes, but it is simulcast. See below. Numerous towers at that site, as shown.
