Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased a KMC 41 mic for my 2180. I tried to program the 2 buttons on the mic but it says I can't because under the general tab I do not have the 12key selection made because my doesn't have that. Can I change that to say I have the 12 key pad and then be able to program the buttons on the mic or not?

At what stage in programming are you getting this error and what functions are you trying to assign to them? I have several non-DTMF keypad models in service with the microphone buttons active. On the 'Key Assignment' screen, under general, if you don't have a keypad, you specify 'NONE' and then under the mic key tab set the functions as you wish for PF1 and PF2.

I'll also ask, what version firmware and what version of the software are you running?

The software version is 1.61. I am not sure of the firmware on the radio but I'm sure it is an older version then the software.

I get the error message after I assign what I want the PF1 and PF2 keys to be and then hit close. The error message says I can not create a zone with out a CH/GID. I want the keys to go to my 1st and 3rd channels. These are the county fire dispatch channel and my depts fire ground channel

You need to set the direct channels up on the direct channels tab of the key assignment window. You can set each of the five direct channels up to go to any channel in any zone via that tab.

I believe it is set up that way. The orange button on the radio along with the 2 smaller buttons on the side are all programmed to go directly to different channels.

i wonder if the firmware on the radio is out of date?? Last time I made changes to the radio and wrote to it, a big list of things popped up and it said things things can't be changed because of the out of date firmware. I don't know if that has anything to do with this or not because I don't remember what all was on the list.

I did see where I can buy the firmware off of ebay.. My only question on that is I have the 89D and the one listed to buy is a 89DK. What is the difference?
