Hello Everyone,

I have a Uniden Bearcat model BC75XLT and I have been trying to program my scanner. I am interested in hearing my local police departments which would be Columbia PD, Richland Co, Lexington CO, and any other department in the two county area. I was wondering could somebody point me in the right direction with as much help as possible?

Thanks, O.D.

Thank You For the Quick Response, I was wondering do the old frequencies work with the Bearcat BC75XLT. For example Columbia Police Metro/West Dispatch 460.225, I don't hear anything at all so I was wondering is the palmetto 800-P25 radio system frequencies able to be heard on the model scanner I have?

Thanks again

It appears the BC75XLT is an analog scanner, while the agencies you mention all use the Palmetto 800 P25 trunked radio system for primary communications. That is a digital radio system. I don't believe your scanner is capable of monitoring the agencies you're interested in. You'll need to purchase a digital trunk tracking scanner.

Thank,

Ya'll letting me know that my scanner is not compatible with the Palmetto 800s. Since this has been brought to my attention. I'm glad y'all have been able to answer my questions in a timely fashion and have been very helpful to me.

Now my next question are there any digital scanners under $150 dollars that could be recommendation if its a list of possible handheld ones out there ?

The RadioReference Radio Model Wiki is a great resource for identifying scanner models that meet particular criteria. I don't see a way to narrow down "low cost handheld digital trunk-tracking scanners", which is what you're looking for. But here are links to

Handheld scanners, analog and digital: Category:Handheld Scanners - The RadioReference Wiki

Digital Trunktracking scanners: Category:Digital Scanners - The RadioReference Wiki

Project 25 supporting scanners (that's the type of trunked radio system that is Palmetto 800): APCO Project 25 - The RadioReference Wiki

If your target budget is $150, you're going to be looking for a used digital trunk-tracking scanner. There are no models that support digital trunk-tracking that are $150 new in the box. So, once you select a model of interest, you'll need to check the RadioReference classified section, eBay, Craigslist, or local pawn shops to try to find something that fits within your budget. New digital trunk-tracking scanners are likely to cost $400+.

Good luck.

The lowest cost I have been able to find on new in box scanners that are digital P-25 capable are the Whistler WS1065 (base) or the WS1040 handheld. ( I did see 1 USED WS1065 on eBay for 150 ) They can be found on eBay or Amazon for $240 or $250 with free shipping. They are phase 1 only. Phase 2 capable are near double that price. Be aware however, all law enforcement in Lexington County and SOME talk groups in Richland County are encrypted and can't be scanned with anything. Much of Richland law is open , but not all.
