I am somewhat familiar with my scanner and use Win500 to program. I have been reading the wiki page on KSP and I am confused. It says the system is a APCO-25 Conventional System. The forums say it is a Conventional P25 system. How do I program it into my Pro-106? As a trunk system? I have the frequencies in now as conventional and I don't ever receive any traffic.

Thanks!

What you are seeing is 6 conventional tower sites with 2 frequencies per site all linked together by microwave links. You have Dispatch A and Dispatch B each site all 6 transmit either A or B depending on what channel is being used. So if you are not moving you program the site nearest to you for both A and B. If you are moving around West Ky (which mobile scanners are against the law) then you program all 6 sites both A and B and the scanner will pick up the site it is near.

It is a conventional system. I don't have win500. For each frequency, the squelch mode should be P25 or NAC, whichever option is available. For squelch code, enter the NAC number.

I have them in conv and P25 and the NAC number. I am just not receiving any traffic. I am in Owensboro. The closest post is 16 in Henderson.

Here is the system in the database for reference

If you're not even getting digital squawks (which would indicate an obvious programming error), then you are too far away from Henderson to hear. If you're just using the antenna that comes with the radio you should know it's very much a compromise on most frequencies. In addition, UHF isn't fond of lots of deep hills and valleys.

Assuming there's no programming issue nor any damage to the radio, you're going to need to improve your antenna situation to have a shot Putting a discone or similar up above the obstructions, along with good coax, will likely solve your problem.

I have little problem receiving KSP with my '106 I have Ashland, Frankfort, Elizabethtown & Richmond programmed. Seems some posts are busier than others. One thing you could do is to change the specific NAC code to "SEARCH" to make sure you receive something. When you receive a transmission, press the "save" key. Once you've finished, upload from the scanner to WIN500 & save, then download back to the scanner.
