I talked a friend of mine into getting the 2051, I am going to set him up with programming.
I have never used a R.S. scanner before, I noticed alot of similarities between the 2051 and my BCT8.
Is the 2051 programing alot different? Is it fairly easy to figure out if someone is familiar with the BCT8?
I am going to put both conventional freqs., and several MOT II 800 trunk systems in it.
Just curious if I should get his manual and study a bit before I go over to do it, or if I will be able to figure it out fairly easily.

You might find more information here; your observation re that the radio seems similar to the BCT8 is correct, not withstanding the intro on this site;

PRO-2051 Yahoo group

As an aside, I see that Jim Springer is working on getting Scancat Lite Plus to work with this scanner; as it already supports the BCT8, once he gets it going, it might be a way to program without a lot of hassle. When it's ready, you might want to look into getting this program, as well as joining the Scancat Yahoo group so you can get support. Jim's testing is....well...not as complete as I would like to see it. :wink:

Thanks for the info, I am just planning on getting him started with local stuff, I will suggest that he might look into getting the software if he starts really getting into scanning.

Do the 2051's work well if you put conventional freqs. and a trunk system into the same bank?

I know on my Uniden, it seems to cause problems when I do, I have to keep my trunk systems in their own bank by themselves for them to seem to work properly.

I was hoping the 2051 didn't inherit that problem, so I could combine all of the local conventionals, and 1 local trunk system into 1 single bank.

Dunno, Joe, I don't have a BCT8 nor a 2051 (my area is largely digital trunking). Current trunktracker technology should allow you to have a trunk system and conventional freqs in the same bank, so I find it odd that you said it causes you problems. There is a BCT8 Yahoo group where you might find the answer for that. Very strange.

Pro-2051 & scancat lite

Just picked up a PRO-2051, new in-box for $65 on ebay. Great scanner. Also picked up USB serial converter cable at RShack and purchased ScanCat Lite. After some intial hurdles this set up works great and allows me to skip complicated button press sequences when programming the 2051.

PRO 2051 is easy to program, and almost identical to the BCT8. It will trunk analog UHF & 800 MHz Motorola, EDACS, & LTR systems. Yes, you can put trunked systems and conventional into one bank. It is a nice radio, and for $65 if you can find one, a good bargain. Just note that it will NOT trunk a 900 MHz Motorola system. The 2055 adds PL/DPL tone capability and alpha tags to the scanner for the extra money.
