If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have KPG 73D software and plan on programming a Kenwood TK 8180 UHF with the County Road Dept/Storm Chase Frequencies.. (Which are UHF Trunked LTR) and the radios won't be here until next week sometime. I was going to go ahead and start on the program now so that it'll be done when they arrive, However, When I open the KPG 73D I just get a gray screen. Will I have to read the radio first Before I can put anything in it? Just Curious As To How I Could Do It Early.. Any Help Is Appreciated..

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe the tk-8180 is programmed with the KPG-89D software.

At least that the software that I use for my 8180.

Regards

May be it is.. Hmmm.. Weird I did a search for it and it gave me a list of several 89 D 73D and some others.. I may have to purchase the 89D as well, This 73D won't let me even make a program without reading first apparently..

KPG-89D for programming a TK-8180.
KPG-73D for programming a KGP-2A GPS modem that will fit onto a TK-8180.
