i had a portable radio programmed for EMS use and i forgot to use the input frequencies for the repeaters. will i still be able to hear the operations going on over my portable. or am i going to have to get it reprogrammed

This message is unclear; if you are talking about a professional radio (Motorola for example) we have a set of different forums for that. If you're talking about a scanner, you generally won't need to hear the inputs of a repeater; that also applies (sometimes) to fireground operations. I said 'sometimes' because on some trunk systems, fireground ops are repeated there.
