Hi all. I need opinions. Is a “Notebook” enough to operate the EZ Scan software to program a TRX - 2?
If the 'notebook' is running Windows, it should work.
Almost all of the various software programs that are used to program or control scanners are Windows based. So neither a Mac nor a Chromebook could be used as is for the TRX-2, as well as other Whistler & Uniden scanners. There are some workarounds to get Windows to operate on a Mac or Chromebook, but these require an additional program, such as Parallels in order to run a Windows session, and you would need a copy of Windows as well.

For Chromebooks (Android), see:
Yes, you can use Windows software on a Chromebook
Frankly, by the time you acquire the programs needed to enable programming via a Mac or Chromebook, you're at or above the cost of a previously owned laptop or desktop. None of the software for these scanners requires the latest, greatest, lightning fast laptop or PC. You would, of course, need a PC or laptop that can access the internet.
