As has been discussed in the past Progress Energy uses
an Opensky system which can not be monitored by commercially
available scanners. So you are not going to be able to monitor them.

Progress Energy is moving over slowly but surely going to Open Sky, which we all know is what Duke Energy is using now. It may be a while before anyone sees the change over to Open Sky in an area where Progress provided service as the primary utility company. They will continue to use their old Motorola system(s) until Duke can get the Open Sky system expanded to those areas.
Beside Duke/Progress Energy, other companies that contract for Duke and need radios to communicate with Dispatch in Charlotte at the Little Rock Operations center include Pike, Utility, Williams, etc.
Duke is moving fairly fast to consolidate everything into Open Sky but there isn't an exact time frame. Hope this helps out !!

i personally like the uniden 396xt
uniden has new radios coming out soon (next year)
