PROVIDENCE, R.I. — At 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Fire Department will switch over for good to the 800 MHz radio frequency. That means it will be using a new digital microwave communications system that promises to keep first responders in close contact throughout any local, regional or statewide emergency.
