Provo Utah Dispatch rescinds blackout of info

Provo • Utah County dispatchers, in an effort to keep the public informed, are lifting a news blackout and now will tell reporters where a fire or police incident is happening — and who is in charge.
The Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District’s board unanimously voted Thursday to rescind a policy approved in May that barred dispatchers from giving any information to journalists.

I suppose there are 2 sides to every story but I read this to say the Board went too far in cutting off the flow of info to the public.

(at the May meeting, according to recordings obtained by The Tribune, board members accused reporters of interfering with operations and possibly endangering police by revealing the location of SWAT team members.

Rand Andrus, Eagle Mountain’s fire chief, said at Thursday’s meeting that a news helicopter showed the location of police officers during a hostage standoff.)


They did go to far, but they were upset with the press for these incidences. The truth is that on a big incidence someone will call the news media anyway , so radios can't take the blame.
