If it is the same size as the 97 (as it looks like it is) this is better.

I think it's pretty much identical to the 97. Screen looks the same to me. Come to think of it, this might be the non-RadioShack PRO97.

Can't be the 2055, the screen on this one works

Anyway, the 97 and 2055 don't have the bar graph on the top of the display.

Good eye Grog. Also I see that the att was moved from the second line on the 97 to the top on these new scanners. Do these have banks/channels or will they be more of a "Dynamic" setup?

And will the DC tones work unlike with the 97/2055

I've had no problem with DCS on my PRO-97. You must have a broken one. Why not get it fixed instead of bashing the whole product line?

The signal strength is new I wish my 97 had that

I've never found that feature useful on a scanner. With two-way radio, if you want to give someone a signal report, then yes, but how does it apply to scanning? I could see maybe when evaluating various antennas, but even then, it's what you hear, not see, that's important.

I think these two models will be great performers, as are the 97 and 2055 (With the exception of the HUGE Display Problem on the 2055). I don't think GRE would make the same mistake twice. The first one is probably the reason RS bowed out.

I have both the 97 and the 2055. I have sent both in to RS for the problem both have come back with the problem. I do not have the problem with the DCS (DPL) on my 92's/2067 or my 96/2096. I am not the only one who has had this problem with the 97/2055. It acts like the priority is on and it drops the call for a split secound.

Looks like the same old stuff repackaged.

Here is what I'd like to see.

1) Passport trunking
2) Virtual control
3) USB interface
4) 700 MHz
5) 380 MHz
6) Ensure that 800 NPSPAC rebanding can be acomplished without tricks.
7) Slot for removable media [SD or SDHC]
8) Onboard MP3 recording, That's what the removable media is used for.

Are you listening GRE?

When you are mobile you can establish a general location for the repeater. When dealing with Federal radio, which you can't lookup publicly and get a site location, it helps a lot. Or amateur radio, since they always use a vague:roll: city name.

Interesting that the 400 covers milair, the 300 doesn't, yet the 300 is supposed to be the handheld version of the 400? What's up with that?

Should be attractive to those scannists in areas that still have analog trunking...

The 400 doesn't look like it has a true ISO DIN form factor. The 2096 was also not true ISO DIN. The 2096 had built-in non-removable trim which violated the ISO DIN form factor. That made the 2096 very difficult (to imposible in some cases) to fit as the second ISO DIN unit in a double din opening.

I hope the picture is inaccurate and that the 400 will have a true ISO DIN form factor with OPTIONAL REMOVABLE trim like every single other ISO DIN head unit sold in the world today (i.e., follow the standard, don't violate it). This is extremely important in todays vehicular mobile applications (for mounting in other than monster trucks and old '70s beaters in any case).
