GRE's website says in part that the frequency range is....

UHF High 764.00000 - 960.00000 MHz
1240.00000 - 1300.0000 MHz
Except cellular band: 824 - 848.9875 MHz and 869 - 893.9875 MHz

There is a system (PRWIN http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100308 ) currently testing in the Phoenix AZ metro area that is using 771.91875 as one of two cc's on a P25 simulcast system. The PSR-500 actually has a gap with no coverage between 766.996875 and 773.000000mhz.

Using my Pro-96 (with extended frequencies opened with Win96) I can hear and tune this freq range. I also found a P25 conventional cc at 769.200 (or 769.19375) and have heard that same site using 770.??? for a cc.

The point is, right now, I can't even tune these freqs on the PSR-500.
1. Why are they locked out.
2. Can they be unlocked? (CPU update?)
I have not asked GRE yet.

Thanks,
Keith

Because until recently, they were not "valid" frequencies in the US (EDIT: at least, not for the usage you're now seeing)

Probably (CPU update)

Thanks Don.

I'll send this to GRE to see what they can do.

PS I purchased Win500 when I got my PSR-500 & Win96 years ago and have nothing but good things to say about them and your customer service for your products as well as all your input here at RR.

You know, what makes a company like GRE so admirable is that it understands the needs of its users so well that it's at least willing to acknowledge the issue publicly even if the solution isn't available yet. The thought that a software upgrade alone might be able to expand this coverage (rather than requiring everyone to buy a new scanner) really demonstrates how far this technology has advanced in the past few years.

I just looked and there haven't been any new statements from GRE on this issue. Does anyone have enough experience with them to be able to guess what kind of turn-around times we can expect? I assume if it takes FCC type acceptance it will take longer but am curious about when.
I'd rely on the GRE web site. I would presume that as soon as they have any definitive information, it will be posted there.
