I am going to get one i just don't know witch one yet.
I have a PRO-96 and love it.
But i like the signal meter on the PSR-600.
How good is it?
Does anyone have any input on the two scanners?
The 2096 is on sale intel 3-15-08 $100 off.
So i may make my mind up tonight.
$100 is a lot of money.

I can't comment on the PSR 600 because I don't own one. As for the 2096, I have it and the PRO-96. I like being able to instantly clone the 2 radios. I also like being able to use the same software (WIN96) for both scanners. The PSR 600 looks like an awesome scanner. However, I am going to stick with my Pro-96 and 2096 for now because I like the way they perform and I am very familiar with how to use and program them. If you go with the Pro-2096, you might be able to save an extra 10-20% by applying for a Radio Shack credit card so that would be an additional savings.

I have both and the meter is of little use for general scanning. The 16 character alpha tag is useful but the 2096 provides a better trunking display IMO. I.e., full time voice freq, system and talkgroup during coms on the 2096, while the 600 alternates the system/talkgroup and voice freq/control freq but neither frequency has an alpha tag.

Ya gotta consider also what the future is in your area for scanning. The 600 can trunk scan both 385 and 764 MHz systems...can't be done with the 2096.

Also, only DSP-App can be upgraded in the 2096 while the 600 can upgrade the CPU as well. Edit: And this is a sure fire fix for properly scanning the Virginia STARS system. The 2096 will never get this fix.

This is a great scanner. It has a lot of nice features and is ready for the future of scanning. The P-25 reception blows away the 2096. Don't worry about the $100.00 if your looking for a good scanner. It will pay off. The flashing LED or you can set it to use a sound instead, 700Mhz . It's not hard to program either.
