Just as the thread title states, when I plug in the power adapter now, which I have two of and have tried both, the scanner just turns off if already on, or it will not turn on. If I unplug it and just use the batteries, it still works. I am curious if it is a faulty power input or anything that I can fix on my own. I have access to soldering tools if needed and have good electronics technicians that can help me. Not worried about warranties or anything, and would rather not lose the radio for weeks or spend hundreds to fix something that is non-essential but would like to get working.

Any ideas?

The attached schematic is for the PRO-106 scanner, nearly identical to the PSR500. The components to check are marked. If the diode is bad it should be replaced with an equivalent part to maintain power polarity protection. The inductor is for noise filtering and can be replaced with a
piece of wire if the original replacement part is not available.
