At about 2330 hours yesterday, Glendale Police, AZDPS, Yavapai County SO, and perhaps others were involved in a pursuit through the Town of Wickenburg of stolen auto or two, one that had the ignition started by electronic bypass device. There were two autos involved - a Chevrolet Camaro and a Dodge Challenger. Earlier in the day, GPD investigations was sitting on a site that involved cars.

The chase left US 93 and went on AZ-71 to Aguila. The chase went N on AZ-71 to US-93 and then north on 93. At around 0050 hours, the cars were spotted in Wikieup still headed north to I-40.

One vehicle [possibly the Challenger] then went west on I-40 and made it several miles to the west around McCarrell Road. The vehicle was 'stop-sticked' and ultimately spun out. It caught fire and was destroyed. The driver fled.

The other vehicle [believed to be the Camaro] was intercepted by the California Highway Patrol. No other information is available about the occupants, the vehicle, or the role that it may have played in the chase.

It sounds almost like the 1971 movie 'Vanishing Point'.
