I assume, this can be done using quick keys so I can switch back and forth between the 2 favorites lists anyone know of a link that explains how this can be done? I've been swapping 2 sd cards that have a different favorites list on them but that's a lot of trouble. Thanks!

oh no. that is for sure the hard way. Use sentinel and create 2 favorites lists. One for each then write them to the scanner. You can assign quick keys in Sentinel before the write. You can then switch by quick key or menu. I am doing this now with like 7 lists and I switch by menu. By menu they can both be scanned at the same time.

I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do that I have ProScan also. Thanks!

Sentinel is free from Uniden and very easy to use. Create a new Favorite... drill down to the entity you wish to monitor, right click and add to favorite... rinse and repeat for the second fav list. Right click on the fav list and select program... find the quick key column and edit the key to your liking. save everything and write to scanner. Done.

Like anything new, even a child tying shoes, a new scanner is difficult to program at first. So you are going through something many have experienced.

You can have many, many different Favorites Lists. I have upwards of 25 depending on different listening scenarios.

This expands and explains what was written above-

Your Profile is the collection of Favorites Lists. In Sentinel, use the Master Database to locate the items of interest. Then right click Append to Favorites List. In the Pop-up window that appears, click the New Favorites List at the bottom left corner. Enter the name you wish and click OK

Then, click the Edit column header and Edit that newly created Favorites List. (Highlight the row and click OK.) In the right pane, go to Options and assign a number in the FL Quick Key. That's where you create a Favorite List Quick Key.

To add a second, third, fourth etc. Favorites List, repeat the above steps. Just do not use the same FL Quick Key for more than one Favorites List.

After you have created all your Favorites Lists, go back to the Edit column and click on Edit, this time Edit the Profile. In the Scan Selection tab, be sure that both Monitor is On (so the scanner will "listen" to the FL) and Download is On (so the FL is written to the scanner).

The final step is to write this data to the scanner as you already know how to do, being sure to erase the Favorites Lists existing on the card ("cleaning the slate").

Then to toggle an individual Favorites List QK On/Off, press the number assigned, then E Yes. (The E Yes confirms you want to toggle the FLQK, because sometimes, buttons are inadvertently pressed.)

Click the favorites node then on the right side, go to the Favorites Options then set the FL Quick Key. Do the same for the other favorites. When you're done, write or FTP write to the scanner.

"very easy to use" That method is more steps then ProScan.
"free" That's the same as the stock antenna that comes with the scanner is free so you will be fine with it.

ProScan has extra capabilities that I don't believe Sentinel has such as:
  • Multiple Favorites on the same tree which makes it easy to Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop systems
  • Find Duplicates utility
  • Find & Replace utility
  • Update Text Tags utility
  • Import directly from RRDB. RadioReference subscription required
  • Import from the Win Clipboard or from a RR web page. No RadioReference subscription required
  • Versatile Sorting options
  • Google Maps showing all the systems with circles or rectangles
  • Export nicely formatted web page showing any or all (user selectable) the FQK's, SQK's, Number Tags, and systems
  • Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop nodes to other systems and other ProScan instances
  • SDS200 FTP Read & Write using the Ethernet connection
  • View the differences between ProScan and the Scanner favorites when writing and reading to and from the scanner
  • Modify Uniden (HPDB) Database utility
You will still need Sentinel to edit the profile, update the master HPDB database (if not using ProScan to import directly from the RRDB), & update the firmware.

"Very easy to use" = the software you have learned.
"very hard to use" = software you have not learned.

So, every program can be very easy or very hard depending on your own experience.

If you want software to be easy to use, learn how to use it. It's that simple.

Agree and disagree.

In this day and time most folks programming a scanner other than just getting it running will use a PC. Hell I had mine running at the sales counter with just a zip code but there was allot of trash when doing only that. Some things yes are tucked away in Sentinel but for the most part the app follows the windows standards. Pretty easy to find the database and your area then create a fav's list. Other apps not so much. LOL messing with the antenna in my case was only done because my man cave apparently is a great signal blocker otherwise stock should have been fine. That and my layout is not real accommodating to an antenna attached to the 200.

shansmi, Are you are implying that other apps don't follow the Windows standard? I would think they all do since they are built on the Windows platform. Do you have 1st hand knowledge and a specific example or did you hear about it from someone else and just repeating it like the telephone game?

What other apps don't? They all do by starting with selecting the state, then county, and so on. Again, if you can you provide a specific example.

I don't mean to be argumentative but just looking for a clarification and to see if anything can be improved in my apps.

Understand I am VERY new to using scanners. I started with an Aulance100 with a GPS only to learn it was pretty complicated to program and secondly that it did not do p25 systems. Great little dual channel radio for HAM but not a scanner like the SDS100 and 200. My comments are not against ProScan in any way and sorry if they came across that way.

Now please understand my history with the 100 and 200. At the sales counter I put my zip in the 100 and was up and running in seconds BUT getting lots of stuff I was not interested in mainly Dallas PD. I knew I would get them based on experiences with the Aulance100. Once home I installed Sentinel and within minutes had a local
favorites list created and pushed to the 100. It was as simple as drilling down to my state and county then finding the cities of interest. Right click on one and add to fav... done. Nice thing is it adds all the required simulcast info when adding a department of interest. About an hour later I had all the local stuff in one fav list (places I am most likely to drive or are directly adjacent to my hometown) as well as few more for other places I go occasionally. For everything else I fire up the GPS. A week after getting a 100 for mobile use, I purchased a 200 for home use. Profiles in Sentinel for each radio are pretty cool.

I have played with ProScan. Gear arrives today for some its more advanced features like the LAN access and logging but I will still use Sentinel for main programming. At least until I figure out how to import the profiles and favorites into ProScan as well as register to get rr.com access (comes with Sentinel by default).

As far as Windows standards all I meant was "most things" are at level one i.e. one menu or one right click to get the job done vs going a little deeper into menus and context menus.
