• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know how to get the scan feature running but does it only work on AM?

If I'm on the CB band and I switch it to USB or LSB scan does not work. Is this by design or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for all of the help!

When scanning SSB I have found it can stop the scan too early or late. Unlike FM or AM it is the broken squelch audio that stops the scan. The radio may stop very suddenly when it detects the squelch being broken and you are not quite on they guys frequency which may require adjusting the frequency to clear up the voice quality. It is great for watching for activity on a band like 6 meters. It can tell you to pay attention! Something is going on!

I would not buy a CB radio again that does not scan the 40 channels pretty quickly. There isn't that much activity around here anymore. I would be surprised if FM CB catches on all that well. I think it is a move by the manufacturers to stimulate sales mostly.

Have you set the squelch high enough on SSB? Scanning never works as well on SSB as it does on FM or AM.
CB AM mode will not scan with squelch all the way down. SSB does scan with squelch almost all the way down.....

CB AM mode will not scan with squelch all the way down. Where do I check "Time Scan"?

I’ve been assuming similarity with QT60.
Menu gives me choice. My take on the pair is different access to features, not just faceplate differences.

Line-by-Line comparison of operator manuals is probably needed by a contributor so we can all of us make best radio choice.

I’d be voting for “defective” at the point you’ve reached.

We've tried everything....but like you said, I do think it's defective.....

EDIT! Just got an email from stating that the squelch all of the way down turns on ASQ.

(ASQ means auto squelch. This type of squelch usually only works well on FM. If you used on AM, you might find that it cuts out the background noise, but that it also eliminates the ability to hear distant signals. We recommend using the regular squelch that you can manually adjust per your liking.)

I turned up the squelch and finally static.....maybe it is OK?

Have a great day and thanks for the help!

ASC? Madam, maybe your TV doesn’t work because it isn’t plugged in? Feels that way, huh?

I'll blame radioddity....for some reason their manuals are created so you cannot search for words/terms and my pdf reader cannot decipher it....almost like the manual is in a picture format.....
