Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone interfaced a Raytheon JPS SNV12 to a Quantar? What is the best method of doing this? I will have 2-3 UHF downlink radios and will need to use the Quantar for local VHF RX.

Yes. Using 2 wire with a mix of MTR2000's and Quantars for our remote RX radios. 4 wire to the repeaters.

So I assume you are relying on the SNV12 to do the keying tones (2175Hz)? I had heard that you can do COR but I like the 4 wire idea better. Would either of you happen to have the pin locations on the Quantar for this? I am very new to this station and am getting confused with how many different ways this can be done.

For the ACU family they have always been great with the Technical notes and Cables. I would expect the same for the SNV product line.

Have you checked with them ?

Yeah, we use tone remote for all ours.

You can hook up the 4 wire circuit in two places:

50 pin telco connector
Pin 1 = Line 1 +
Pin 26 = Line 1 -
Pin 2 = Line 2 +
Pin 27 = Line 2 -
Pin 3 = Line 3 +
Pin 28 = Line 3 -
Pin 4 = Line 4 +
Pin 29 = Line 4 -

Or the 8 pin connector on the top right
Pin 1 = Line 1 +
Pin 2 = Line 1 -
Pin 3 = Line 2 +
Pin 4 = Line 2 -
Pin 5 = Line 3 +
Pin 6 = Line 3 -
Pin 7 = Line 4 +
Pin 8 = Line 4 -

There's a jumper that needs to be set for 2 wire vs. 4 wire

JU1010 on the wireline interface board.

The Quantar installation manual covers all this.

Okay, looking at the RSS now, I see the wireline configuration and the TRC options. I will track down the manual to be sure the jumper is selected properly. I assume I will use pins 1&2 and 4&5 on one of the SVMs (TB1-12) on the voter... Stupid question, does the Quantar generate pilot tones on the RX audio pair so the voter knows there is audio present?

For the ACU family they have always been great with the Technical notes and Cables. I would expect the same for the SNV product line.

I have a manual here which I think I am getting a good understanding of. I have spoke to them on before and are always very helpful.

Yes, the Quantar generates the tones.

I believe that is the right pins on the SNV-12, but I don't have the manual in front of me.

I went to the site this weekend and realized that I do not have a wireline card installed in the station. Have you ever done this using COR and PTT instead of EIA tones? Do you see an advantage to one method over the other? I am not opposed to buying a wireline card if need be.

Ah, OK, used to be they came with it, but newer versions didn't.

Ours had them standard.

You could use a remote tone box to handle the transition.

Thanks for all the replies. Will get this on the bench this weekend and see what we can make happen.
