H O W D Y....renewed and the itch is back and I am considering updating/grading the handhelds & Xceiver equipment...just under the general auspices of "CUZ I can!!"

Yaesu system equipment~~three FT60-R handhelds & FT2900-R FM Xceiver [including external PS for inside use] purchased O/A 2013ish purchased for personal safety during major natural events and not as "prepper", per se.

About 4/5 years ago the handhelds were checked out by a local radio maintenance store and determined to be fully operational.

This stated, considering Xceiver to YAESU FT-710 FIELD or YAESU FTM-510DRASP and two FT 70DR or YAESU VX-6R.

I'm a puter geek but overwhelmed when the discussion switches to frequency modulation, ad nauseam, which causes my eyes to roll to the back of my head so am wondering if there are viable suggestions on:
1] keep existing equipment it'll meet your needs!
2] NAWL... go with this Xceiver and this handheld
3] ethernet modality available to unbiasedly check & compare features???

Now at the moment I'm not interested in conversing across the planet but rather just looking for equipment which will get good reliable reception...

thanks in advance for your sharing your knowledge which will aid my quest for the Grail....

cheers...

I think you already have some good solid radios.

While there is certainly newer equipment, the FT-60's are still pretty well regarded as being a good radio. If they check out and work well, there's really no reason to upgrade in my opinion, unless you just want to upgrade.

If you haven't been on the air in a while, it might be a good idea to spend some time listening with the radios you have to see what the local action is like. Things have changed quite a bit in the last couple of years. More digital modes in use, more small hotspots.
I think getting an idea if there's enough traffic in your area to warrant spending money on new radios would be a wise first step. No reason to spend a lot only to find out the bands are locally very quiet.
