About 6 months ago, I finally purchased a Pro 96. It has been a few years since I was last really into the hobby. But now that I have a digital scanner, I'm once again hopelessly addicted.

Being near Chardon, I monitor the Marcs tower in Chardon regularly. Sometimes I notice that when I'm listening to the Chardon OSP talkgroup, I'll often hear units from Post 4 (Ashtabula). I also think that I may have heard troopers in Trumbull County as well.

Can anyone elaborate on this? It seems like I usually hear this occurring late at night. Does the Chardon Post dispatch for other area posts as well (between certain hours maybe)?

In very simple terms it has nothing to do with the post dispatching. What you are hearing are radios associated with the Chardon broadcast tower. There is much written on these forums that explain how MARCS works. It would be best if you search these past posts out since the topic is voluminous.

Lastly, any OSP car, regardless of what post is its home base keeps its home base identity even though it may be logged onto a different tower. That is why you are hearing different posts on the Chardon tower.

Also, because Post 4 (Ashtabula) and Post 28 (Chardon) like to patch together while one of the dispatchers is on lunch break. Also, Post 78 (Warren) is the District HQ and can patch in to any of the Post Talkgroups throughout the District.

That's not the issue...I know I can pick up units from Ashtabula, Ravenna, and Warren.

My question involves what talkgroup they're using. Most of the time, troopers from each post will talk on their own talkgroup (e.g.- Post 4 uses talkgroup I.D. 16864 for dispatch, and Post 28 uses I.D. 16928 for dispatch)

It's just that sometimes I'm hearing Post 4 units on Post 28's talkgroup, instead of on their own.
