To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,
Im considering buying a couple of SL7550e radios. The issue is they are AAH81TCN9TA2AN which is 450-512 MHz.
Can they be programmed into the 440 ham band without a lot of hacking of SW? Is the CPS for the XPR7550e the same as the SL7550e?
I believe they are FPP so is it possible to program them in the 440 range that way?

Thanks for any input.

Don.

The CPS is the same. Typically the e model does not work out of its intended band. The US versions are not FPP.

While I don't currently own one, I seem to remember them working just fine in the ham bands, with the usual hex edit mod. The only 'e' series radios that don't work out of band are the 7580e and the 5580e.

As was mentioned, they only do DMR. They will not do analog at all. Where they are useful in the ham world is for around the house use with a DMR hotspot. Not useful really for anything else, unless all you use are DMR repeaters.
