Question About STARS

This is a basic question ....... I live in Berryville, VA and yet I get a lot of VSP Culpeper 1 & 2 traffic off the Apple Orchard site. Apple Orchard is 160 miles from my house. I can understand getting a lot of hits on Mount Weather, which I can see from my house, but I'm confused about Apple Orchard. The WVIRP system seems to have some similar observations such as the Craigsville site which I pick up all the time and is hundreds of miles away. Are we sure these control channels in the RRDB are correctly matched to the sites?

Unless your scanner is displaying SID:019Eh-0225, you're receiving the Hogback Mt site on 161.8875, not Apple Orchard.

I experienced the same thing, except my scanner would say I was getting traffic from both towers, I would get traffic off the Halifax tower, but I lived near the Hampton tower, I've found that there are numerous towers around the State that use the same CC frequencies but are very distant from each other, if you look through the Site list and find out what towers use the same frequencies you can just lock out the distant tower.

Now that you mention it although I also monitor the Mt Weather STARS site, it often shows up as Rumford which is down in King William County I believe. I thought it had something to do with the repeaters but the same site freq is a better explanation.
