We recently bought a Generac generator for our home, and I was wondering — can I use my house as a disaster communications center to help broadcast scanner traffic, event channels, or state weather/emergency channels if something major happens in our area?

Just want to make sure I follow all the right rules and guidelines before setting anything up.

You would need to plan for some other potential pit falls.

You might have power, but if it is an extended event, will your ISP still be running
I've had multi-day events, where I got my power back but the Cable and ISP were still down and Comcast was running from area to area - refueling their mini generators at the poles.

IF no internet, then consider Cellular for your ISP, but then - has your carrier planned, with Generators.
Gasoline/Diesel/Propane ? need to be refueled. Are they Gas fed,

just thoughts for you are up and running, you can hear all the radios, but you have no external contact to the world to share it with.

Not your source but your external folks that you would be relying on to access the interwebs

Not all Cell towers have Generators or infinate sources of fuel
Not all internet (DSL, Cable) providers have unlimited back-up power to keep the network running indefinately

When they run out of power, you no longer have access to the internet, phone etc.
Pointing out, the possible failure points to consider.
