I have a NRD 525 HF recr that I bought used several years ago. Seems that the Lithium memory backup battery has finally expired and I need to replace it.

I don't feel comfortable removing and re soldering the original battery "tabs" on the board as it is a very narrow area within the printed circuits. I would really like to remove the old battery leaving the contacts soldered to the CPU board and splice a pair of wires from the contacts to a battery holder in an adjacent vacant panel. RS used to carry a coin battery holder but apparently has dropped it.

If any one has any experience or suggestions on removing the old battery from the "tabs" and a source for a Lithium coin battery (CR 2032) holder or any other tips I would appreciate hearing. Thanks

The NRDs are fine utility and BC DX machines; produced by Japan Radio Corporation, a company that was (maybe still is) heavily involved in the maritime electronics business. Very expensive receiver!

The NRD525/535 Yahoo group is very likely to be the best place to find information like this. I would also talk to Fred Osterman of Universal Radio; they used to sell these receivers, and may have a couple of ideas on how to attack this problem

Thanks Mike, I did as you suggested re: yahooo grp. I was able to remove the old battery with some work, leaving the tabs soldered to the CPU board and I have ordered a CR2032 battery holder. I should be able to get it attached with a little effort. Some on the Yahooo grp. discussed using a CR123A battery which has a lot more amperage so I'm unsure of that conversion. JRC sure made changing the battery a chore. Appreciate you input.
