To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.
I'm new to the Motorola radio game and am trying to figure out what all the version info means. (ie. host, DSP, secure, ch, tuning). I have the code plug info and am trying to see what software versions work for this XTL5000.
That will not show in the service menu. To answer your question, the CPS version last used to program your radio, or any version newer will program it.
Host is the firmware in the radio
DSP is the last software that was used to program the radio ( I think someone please correct me if I am wrong)
Model is obviously the model number
MSN is the Serial number of the radio
X MEG is how many megs the radio has for flashcode
Flashcode is the actual flashcode of the radio essentially what features the radio has.
Tuning Version is the version of tuner that the radio has in it
Secure is where the encryption modes are listed (DES-XL, BRAVO, ADP, etc.)
I think this is what you were asking for. If you have any more questions feel free to ask

Service mode loops thru the following on the ASTRO25 radios:
HOST (Radio System firmware)
DSP (Digital Signal Processor firmware version)
Secure Version (if H/W crypto is enabled this will be the firmware version of the UCM)
Secure KGX or ADP (KGX is a list of algo's enabled in the UCM)
Model Number
Serial Number
Flashcode (Options enabled in the codeplug)
X MEG (Size of the flash EEPROM device in the radio)
RF Band
Tuning Version (Tuning partition version)
Processor Version (usually BRAVO122 but could vary)
That said it isn't possible to tell what the last version of CPS was used to program the radio with from the service display. Only way to accomplish that is to read the radio, typically if your reading with the last/latest CPS you'll be fine.
