• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I recently purchased a Uniden Home Patrol scanner and was wondering if I can listen to municipalities that do not automatically come up on the radio's database. Like today, there is an emergency at a school down the road from me in Murrysville, PA and I hear nothing. I found something about Murrysville in the RR database and it said that it is trunked at 156.0975 MHz. I'm not sure how this works.
Thanks for any explanations!

According to the wiki there is not a scanner that can decode this. I do believe however, there is a computer program that you feed with your scanner that may decode it. I will refer you back to the link in my post and to others with more knowledge of this.

You will need a tapped radio and DSD. You will need to do some research on those before you continue. If it is encrypted then you are out of luck.
