• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently got a gr1225 uhf repeater setup and when testing I found out it’s not outputting and power hardly at all. I am not able to find a decent priced r1225 replacement radio and am wondering if a regular m1225 could be used and made to work. The r1225 has the ribbon cables and mini uhf port on the front of the radio. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No. A mobile and a R1225 are two different beasts. Not compatible.

Pull the PA heatsink off the back (two torx screws) and pop the shield off. Give it a sniff test and see if there is any burnt/bad solders around the big final transistor. Usually the case for no power.

Hey thanks for responding I am a newbie and have almost zero solder experience but I will see what I can find. Are parts hard to come by for these or is this normally a resolder job.

The PA's are notorious for burning up on R1225's that were run at high power. Even the mid power setting requires a ton of airflow if you run anything over a 50% duty cycle.

The GM300 mobile is often used as a donor for PA/final components, as it is the closest kin to the R1225. If you have zero experience, it's a pretty long jump. Re-soldering vids are out there on Youtube and repeater-builder.com is the go to resource site. You may even find some repair manuals and schematics.

I'd say the emitter on that final looks pretty suspect. If you're not a solder guy could you find somebody to carefully clean that up and reflow the solder all the way around? Unless the leads and caps are over a big black hole usually there's no damage and this might get it going again. With all the flux around those parts I'd say this has been done at least once before.

I appreciate all the help, I did my best to resolder and flow, I was not able to get it to work. I have ordered a used m1225 to use as well I figure I will use the bad radio as a recieve and the m1225 as a transmitter for the gmrs repeater. Now I just need to figure out if a m1225 can or is possible to make it like the r1225 is with a mini uhf receiver on the front faceplate and a spot to connect the ribbion cables for the controller.
