Hi there,

We are setting up a road racing car for races in Calgary, Edmonton, Mission BC Seattle and Portland. Car has a base station with a push to talk and the crew will have a portable unit (yet to be aquired). Base unit is UHF and runs 438 to 470 Mhz.

How do frequency assignments work?

I presume some need to be licensed (fire, police, ems?) but is there a range of assignments that are for public use? Any ranges that are designated for Road Racing specifically?

A

Q; freq Assignment A:(IC in Canada) FCC in US
Q: Emerg services licensed ,A:yes,
Q; Public assignment A: Yes
Q : road racinG A: inCanada (not really) in the past for Moslon Indy IC had freqs set aside for the travelling road show & portable radio shop call Bear comm that provided comms for race vehicles & crew etc. In US very likely.
Go to a radio shop you would find in yellow pages tell em yer radio and they will arrange licensing & programming for you...
then tell us your freq so we can listen when we go to Mission raceway...

Or phone Industry Canada, they have an office in Calgary. They should help you out getting licensed in Canada, at least. And they may even help with FCC.
