LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON A PROJECT-

I am thinking of starting a group for southern NV AZ and S Ca for like minded folks who might be interested in joining a radio network on TeamTalk. it is a regional 450 passpoprt trunked system we would theortically have 3 talkgroups on or one common for folks to exchange infomation on breaking incidents, frequency info and general chat. The cost would be about $30 per month plus the cost of a radio. There are similar groups back east, but with the wildland fires and chases that span wide areas I thought a regional approach would be cool. I do not have hard details, but if there is interest I will pursue it.

And how do you decide net control so it's not a free-for-all ?

Also when you have a regional event, the LTR systems get pretty busy as well
in that same region.

Food for thought.

The Fisher system has crossed my mind more than once.

Radio Net For Scanner Listeners

Going to speak to Fisher Tommorrow.

Thinking of 3 talk groups and a area-wide

will likely assign id numbers based on location

comms would have to be pretty tightly regulated, ie broradcasts would be in a certain format, and traiffic would be in a certain format.

one issue is it appear at least, that the system is not designed to have mutiple radios working say from sac to Yuma all the time, I have to find out. I do know ag companys with offices in Yuma and Salinas are using the system to keep in touch.

Found compatable handhelds on ebay for 50-100, monthly access again is $30

scanner radio network california

ok folks here is the skinny:

I spoke to Fisher people, got a demo, the system could initially be set up with 2 TGs and private call is available, also car to car off the trunk, there is a catch, everything would have to be set up here in yuma. They have had issues withe cooperating dealers, and perfer to set up all radios here. new icoms can be purchased for about $300 but they could program any radio that is UHF LTR passport cabable. Because this would be a "group" , and not a bussiness we could get a negociated rate. I would act as the system admin. The more subscibers the better the rate.

I asked about busys, they occur mostly during the winter farming season(the sytem was designed for salianas offices to speak to field workers in Yuma.) Busys are being addressed with additional frequencies at the mountain tops.

System is analog and microwave covers the entire network, Tucson to north of Sacramento, including ti Colorado River and Vegas. so there is a slght delay. All sites are backed up with generators.

As was said before this is a LTR Passport system.

Communications on the talk group would be more formal than informal if there was a number of subscribers. I get paid to be a fire dispatcher so I have no patience for informal rag chewing. If there is enough interest, We could branch to 3 or four talk groups regionally, (n-ca, s-ca, AZ and NV) plus a regional-wide net.

All users would have a id number assigned to them . The Fisher people will quote me used radio prices or will take your radio and program it on the system for you. There will be a programming charge. All billing at this point will be done individually in the name of the group. (IE john smith for the "group") and you will have your own bill. However there will likely be a user agreement you will have to sign so we can dump deadbeats off the system. or other problem children. I intend to see what kind of discount we can get for paying one year in advance. Air time is unlimited, and there would be no lic needed for car to car channels.

Like i said this at this point is just a idea, i got 3 radios to demo, will use them here in yuma till i get a idea weather this bird will have wings or not. i figure 10 subscibers will be needed for start up, i figure I we can get 25 or more spread out we could have some fun . I feel it would be great to actually speak to some of the people I post with.

questions and comments

I have heard of talk of individules that have wanted to put something like this together before and I dont want to be taken by some lunatic, so would you be kind enough to share some info ? who are you E5911? and what are the rules & regulations of this group going to be. Since this will be a business type of venture ( some sort of cash flow) what is the management structure of this group going to be. What is it's purpose besides using fishers wide area Passport network to share info who is sharing info with who ? Independent news reporters, radio tech's, Hams, React, ARES, RENCOM, EOC'S Local Goverment officials, Emergency managers, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and is there a target group or is this going to be a free for all (for whoever can pay $360 dollars a year per radio)

P.S. kenwood & icom radios work on the passport system but not very well, if you want to do it right use the Motorola HT1250LS+ or a CDM1550LS+ or find some 1225 radios with the scholler johnson passport boards.

Do you think there would be a problem for users joining the group to have Fisher wireless ukiah, or san diego office program the radios depending on where users live so everything dose not have to be shipped to yuma, would you please ask Sue Fisher next time you call the office.

I would also be in for the Sacramento area. May have one or two others who are still in the "thinking about it" stage. Would it be possible to add my own talkgroup to the radio for my news business? If so I may be in for several radio's.

I'm interested for Golden Gate if there is critical mass of users.

Otherwise I'll be talking to myself on the coast.

radio net

Well I guess This may fly

Ok here are the steps
1-meet with Fisher and set it up -initially we would get 2 talkgroups 1 for area wide and a alternate. I want 3: one for CA, 1 for AZ and One for all area. Each subsciber would need to sign a TOS, and and go thru the Yuma office to get the radios programmed. I will advise on the fees. Each subscriber will be issued a unit number that will cooresspond to you area, norcal, socal, az and nevada. I will be developing proceeduresand they will go out along with a dedicated email address. I hope to incorperate text msging to enhance the process.

Im actually surprised at the turnout. Im on shift for the next 3 days so I will get on this first part of next week. Will post additional details PM me with questions

Pete

Can we please not get too anal with the "procedures" thing? I'm a stickler for professional comms and all, but let's not get all whackerish about it with silly codes and stuff. We're not cops, so let's not try to sound like them. Let's keep it to plain English, okay?

10-4, oh sorry, that was a radio code. HA!

No codes - one code can mean a buncha things to a whole buncha people.
