• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I definitely need help here. I was looking around on the internet trying to find qualified CB radio repair but can't seem to find any here in San Diego county. Obviously it seems I have to send it out of state. I came across many YOUTUBE videos regarding MikesRadioRepair, and he seems to have his stuff together compared to one I seen throwing radios around on his video and belittling another radio tech, Does anyone happen to know where MikesRepair is and his work number? It def be greatly appreciated

Just curious, have you tried (on YouTube) looking up his contact info? You might be able to send a message to him through YouTube and get to him. I know I have done that on other videos and high percentage have gotten answers back. It's worth a shot.....

There's also Snake River, or something like that. They are on YouTube also. Have no idea how good or bad they are, but have seen some reviews that more or less gave them a positive.
Just saw that SnakeRiver also has an 800 number. Look in his "description" @:

Edit: I do not have any affiliation with them, nor do I know them. That's up front!

Looking For Lafayette HB-444/25A Restoration Assistance

I’m finishing up a complete restoration of the first two-way radio I ever owned, a Lafayette HB-444/25A 25 channel CB transceiver. On the bottom of the outer case there was a large sticker showing the tube placement and identifying several internal adjustments. That label is more than 50% deteriorated. Do you know of any vintage CB restoration sources that might have reproductions of such labels? Or, if someone has this radio, with the label intact, perhaps I can get a clear photo?

Not to hijack the thread, but do any of the repair shops listed so far fix CPI CBs? A friend has a couple of CPI-400 radios that have synthesizer and other problems and he is looking for someone who has experience with CPI.

prcguy,

I'd go with Mikes Radio Repair. He seems to have all the parts for most any CB radio and works on
all brands. He's located near Gettysburg, Pa. Don't know his prices or turn around time for repairs,
but he would be the one I would go to.

I would think any decent marine radio repair place that repairs HF radios should be qualified to fix a CB radio properly. It is always helpful to have a schematic available beforehand. I would be wary of truck stop repairmen.

Shops I've used.

I've used Tim (Snake Radios) with positive results. I also had Les (Lester's Customs) build/tune a custom radio that absolutely rocks. I think Les is more technical and detail oriented, but Tim does a good job tuning a radio (I did not have a "peak" job done). Tim only works on CB's on Saturday and was about 3 months turn around; les was 6 months, and I've heard "don't push him"; Seemed standard for reputable places to be weeks if not months out; the cheap "peak and tune" jobs out there should be avoided.
