When I purchased my scanner last year, I also purchased the Radio Shack rechargeable batteries. My charger got chewed up by the dog early on, and I was being cheap so I did without my scanner for quite some time. I dare say I have used the scanner 20 hours over the past year.

The past couple days, my scanner starts beeping and showing low battery after less than an hour of use. At first I thought I just forgot to charge it, but it did it again tonight.

I work at night and sometimes I take my scanner with me and leave it in the truck. The other night I left it in the truck and it got down to about 20 degrees out. Is this cold weather most likely what has messed up the batteries? I cant think of anything else. And hopefully it is the batteries and nothing that messed up in the scanner

If the batteries get too cold it will cause them not to functon properly. If possible, use a fresh set of alkaline batteries. If the radio works, it is probably ok and it is the batteries. You did not indicate which radio you got, but if it has two battery inserts ie: black and yellow make sure to use the correct insert for the right type of batteries. Another thing, the lcd display will not function properly if it gets too cold. Usually if the radio is warmed up gradually, as in, to room temperature the display will usually come back to life. If not, the display may be kaput and will need to be replaced.

It should not matter what holder you put the rechargeables in, as long as you're not 'trying' to charge them in the black one...as it wont work.

I've got those green AA rechargeable RS batteries in my Pro-97, too. (cat. #23-525)

I've had them for over a year now and they've been working fine since; I haven't noticed any decrease in charge capacity or how long the batteries will hold a charge either.

It's amazing what R$ makes off of batteries. Did you know that the 4 pack alkaline batteries they sell for $3.99 only cost them .58 cents? Gotta stay in business, I guess. :-D

Actually my batteries are white.....I saw the green ones also. The white ones are what they gave me. Should there be any difference? Maybe I have wrong batteries?

The white ones are the alleged pre-charged batteries. I prefer the green ones...a little more mAh
