The pro96 and the 2096 are back on sale at RadShack, 399.00

I kinda want a 2096 to put in my truck, but it seems so convenient to have the pro96 since it is easily transportable.

I dunno.

If you're wanting a base/mobile unit, I would go with the 996T, Dave. I has more features, like being able to hear an alert when an officer or firefighter "presses the red button." You can also hear ICalls with it, too. NICE feature.

David,
I don't disagree that the 996t is a great scanner but you aren't going to find it for less than $500 anywhere unless you luck into a good used one here or on e-bay. The 2096 is a darn good deal at $400 and it would be hard for me justify spending $100 for the additional features of the 996t. My own experience is that the digital decoding of the 2096 is also far superior to the 996t. It can drive you nuts trying to adjust the digital decoding of the 996t while you're driving.

A private call from one radio to another. Sort of like a cell phone call but placed over radios rather than a phone.
