• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum as of today. After 30 years, I'm returning to CB radio and have a question for those of you who have used or are still using Radio Shack gear. I've been resurrecting my portable gear after years of storage. I have a amplified mic (cat. 21-1175) that used a 7 volt Duracell battery. However, in searching the net, it appears that Duracell no longer makes this battery. I suspect that the age may make it obsolete. In trying to find a replacement, Interstate Battery offered to sell me what they said was a replacement, but turns out it is 7.75 volts and checks out almost 8 volts on the meter. While the Interstate techs insisted that the higher voltage was okay, I'm thinking not. Would someone in the know like to weigh in on this?.....and would someone like to suggest where to go to get a correct voltage battery? I realize that a lot has changed in the 30 some years that I've been absent from the band, but I'm looking forward to the learning curve. Thanks for your input!

Have you looked in the camera area of Wal-Mart, or the like? A couple of components for my house alarm system uses those same ones and I find mine at ACE City Hardware.

the 7.75 will work,,,, but i have always made mine when i couldnt get the right one,, just stack 5 button 1.5 volt cells and shrink tube them,,,, if done right you will have a 7.5 volt battery that will fit right in that mike and also some of the older astatic mikes and several of the turner mikes,,,,,

I think you would be fine with 8volts. I loved RS mic.
You could use a Lipinski battery and a boost regulator. I did this with my current mic. But it does require some soldering
