Radio Shack has extended the sale on the PRO-106, and PRO-197's. Problem is, still no inventory on PRO-106's. Several other scanners back on-sale as well.

Too bad the promotional discount codes expired. Any new ones out there?

Because everyone bought up all the 106's when they were $299 and re-sold them =)

I often wonder how the re-sale value for these scanners down the road will hold up ( i.e. will be hard to get top $$ for them used if brand new they are constantly on sale)

It's amazing how that works isn't it...........

If I couldn't have got mine from a RS dealer or their web site I wouldn't have bought one from anyone who bought them to resell and make money. If they were just trying to be the good guys they could have offered them for what they paid plus shipping.

Maybe for the next big sale RS will put a limit per person or family so more people have a chance to get one at the sale price. I let everyone I knew that might be intrested in one that the big sale was going to happen and not a single one of them got a pro 106 before they were gone. I checked their website at 9am est the first day and narry a 106 left........................

I hope everyone that got one of the 106 or 197 are happy with them. They sure have a lot of bells and whistles but my 96 still decodes better than my 197.

I think anyone who paid $499 for one just couldn't wait to be one of the first to own one. I think the $399 price is more realistic and the prices will hold up. Of course if you paid the $499 you probably will not get a high resale price for it but I doubt we will be seeing the $299 price again for a long time.

Maybe the shack put them back on sale for $399 because they could see how well the scalpers were doing...........

They raised the price of the 2096 back up to $349 and they are still out of stock.......There are still a few who are trying to get $400+ for a 2096 because they paid $500 for it a year or two ago.

The one main reason I like to buy from the store (Radio Shack) and not from a third party is warranty. It helps to have proof of purchase. Now if the seller supplies receipt, than that’s cool but if something goes wrong with scanner, you’re most likely going to come out of pocket on repairs.

Law of supply and demand

Econ 101....This is part of the concept of supply and demand. I bought several and resold for a profit....a nice profit I might add. I had one guy start to give me grief. I told him....You don't have to buy my scanner, but if you want it that is the price; about an hour later he gladly selected the buy-it-now option. They are not available at RS for any price. If you want to get upset, call RS, not the scalpers. It doesn't really matter what the price is going to be down the road, it matters what it is right now. These aren't stocks and futures, these are just scanners. The similiarty is the prices do fluctuate like stocks. Just keep on eye on the price and get in on the action. Hoofy you are right about one thing, $399 as about what the max is people are willing to pay. RS could move quantity if they held them at this price and NOT drop the price to $299 as they have done twice in the last three months. The first time being that one day F&F and sale alignment recently. If people see that $299 is in the cards for a future sale date, will they postpone purchasing??? Anyone want to do a regression analysis on this?

Mike, recheck your Econ 101........

Greed, scalping, price gouging, are not components of supply and demand. Enough of this.

My "therory" is that RS just pulled off the biggest marketing ploy of 2009.

This RR forum is a Gold Mine of the largest sort for all kinds of scanner info. You take a few hundred scanners on hand and let the sale information leak early onto RR forums and then sell the scanners at maybe close to cost with a deal that for the most part doesn't allow for rain checks or back orders from the internet site to prevent a mountainous back log and put those scanners into the hands of some very knowledgeable scanner enthusiasts who live here and more importantly converse here and WA-LA !!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the results.

RS didn't have to spend a dime on advertising. They let the PRO's at RR do that for them.
They sold lots of extra little stuff for scanning in the process and got the best advertising possible.
They may have nearly cleared the warehouse of scanners and maybe determined what a fair market price was for these newest scanners, ie $399. I think we'll see that price a lot.

The last time I checked there were nearly 200,000 registered users for this forum.

I don't think you could target any group of buyers any better than what is occurring now from this site.

I agree. Take the "Milton Friedman" talk somewhere else.

That clown's teaching has really screwed this economy up and we will be lucky to survive the damage that has been done to this country from the GREEDY who embrace that crap. They give nothing, produce nothing, rig everything to their advantage, and take everything for themselves. That can not be sustaind for very long. You can't make something out of nothing (the bubble problem). There is no greater proof of how whong he was than this economy today.

Sorry...I didn't want to get sucked into this OT stuff, but I'm sick of those who have to force "Economy 101" on us.

I am supprised that there is a market for ebay re-sold 106/197. especially since the marketing was done on this web site whom should be educated buyers. if the ebay seller bought them at 300 by the time the sellers markup for profit, shipping, ebay fees, paypal fees your looking at 350-400 plus RS would have no legal obligation to honor warrenties on those re-sold I dont think. plus RS's normal sales at 400 happen like 3 or 4 times a year plus you can get the same scanners from GRE vendors and they may have similiar sales at 100 off. So Maybe this economics 102 :)

better read up on Econ

Sorry Hoofy, supply and demand are part of econ 101. They are the essential part. As someone who is finishing his second Masters Degree this year....me, I might know a little something about this. Dude....Radio Shack in short supply, demand is high. What part of that am I missing??? Enough of that. The equalized price is going to be around $400. That part you are correct on. The price gouging is just part of good old American capitalism.

"Supply and demand is an economic model describing effects on price and quantity in a market. It predicts that in a competitive market, price will function to equalize the quantity demanded by consumers, and the quantity supplied by producers, resulting in an economic equilibrium of price and quantity"......straight from the wiki

.

The problem with that is that you have no way of knowing if someone has already bought one or not. Even by getting someones address (which you can refuse to give) you can use more than one address (I have 4 that I can technically use without hesitation.)

Unbelievable

Wow....trying to pass information here is really getting harsh reviews sometimes. I am only presenting facts. The facts are for you to do with as you wish. If you had read my post with any thought put into it, you would have infered that I was in fact OK with it because of the price. This is a message forum. A forum which to pass on information and facts. I pass on whatever information I can. Do with the information as needed. I posted that the Pro-2096 was in stock as soon as I found out.....
