Hello ... I wanted to mention that for newer model Radio Shack scanners I've noticed that the terminology Triple Trunking has changed from a few years ago ... About 3 years ago 2009 , Triple Trunking meant the
- Motorola Family (Analog) - SmartNet, SmartZone, OmniZone, etc ,
- Ericson EDACS, and
- Johnson LTR ...
This Triple Trunking would apply to RS PRO-164, and RS PRO-163 Types, series ...

But now, I see that the term Triple Trunking is still being used but it means something different now ... The Triple now refers to :
- (Digital Trunk) P25 / (including Motorola Astro-25 series - which is their P25 compliant series)
- Motorola (Analog) Trunk Series - SmartNet, SmartZone, OmniZone, etc
- Ericson EDACS
The Johnson LTR is no longer listed as supported ...
This seems to apply to newer Digital units such as RS PRO-197 , RS PRO-106 etc .

-> So the marketing / product keyword now becomes "Digital / Digital Trunk" ... that tells you
its P25 Trunking and supports digital voice streams ...

That is not correct.

The current line of Radio Shack digital scanners still support LTR, and are not referred to as "Triple Trunking", they are referred to as "Digital Trunking" and they support Motorola, EDACS, LTR and P25 trunked systems. These models include the PRO-106, PRO-197 and PRO-18.

The exception to that are the older PRO-96 (handheld) and PRO-2096 (base/mobile) digital models, which do not support LTR. They are still not referred to as "Triple Trunking", they are referred to as "Digital Trunking" same as above.

"Triple Trunking" scanners are analog-only and support Motorola, EDACS and LTR trunked systems.

The "triple trunking" and "double trunking" terms that came out with the second generation of trunking scanners was one of the worst ideas ever (the terms themselves), IMO. You still have people to this day who will, when asked to tell exactly what type of scanner they have so you can help them, will say "it's a Radio Shack Triple Trunk Tracker". No, it isn't, and that's like asking me to help rebuild the engine on your "four door car".

By the way, OP - twice today I've seen someone refer to "OmniZone" - not sure if you made the other reference, but anyway, the term is SmartZone OmniLink.

Yes They Do.

I believe he's referring to finding out that the Pro-96 and the Pro-2096 doesn't support LTR, not all digital scanners in general. The wiki seems to support that claim.

Pro-96 - The RadioReference Wiki
Pro-2096 - The RadioReference Wiki

I was referring specifically to the PRO-96 and PRO-2096, which do not support LTR systems. As far as I can recall off the top of my head, all other digital scanner from GRE, Radio Shack and Uniden support LTR.
