Radio shops near Chicago

Does anyone know of any actual shops that I can walk into and walk out with a radio besides radio shack? Something more along the lines of a mom and pop type operation.

That's really unfortunate that there is not even one ham radio shop in the entire city of Chicago..

I second that statement. Even with Motorola right around the corner, I would've assumed there'd be more local vendors (at least of Motorola stuff).

Check out Penniger Radio in West Chicago.

Penninger Radio

They are primarily a commercial antenna shop, but he is also an Alinco dealer. I believe he can get other stuff as well. I haven't been to his shop yet, but I did meet him at a hamfest. Really nice guy, extremely knowledgeable.

I'm going to visit his shop next week, while I am on vacation. I'll report back with some details.
