• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Downloaded the latest Chirp build and I still do not see a GD77 listed like other Radioddty radio,
Yes I know that the GD77 is a bear to program and they did have a couple of "correction" builds that wher causing some lockups after loading Has Radioddity "Orphaned" the GD77?

It's not a bear to program at all. No different than any other Motortrbo radio when it comes to programming.

CHIRP does not support the GD77. There's a community version of the firmware/CPS you can download, but I'm not really sure it makes it any more easy to program.

I suggest using the Community Edition, as previously mentioned in this thread.. Roger Clark is the main website, there's no direct link to the software as he posts updates in blog posts essentially, so that's the latest place to look. It's the OEM software, enhanced to make it easier to use and allows some limited reordering of items etc. It's 100% compatible with the OEM, so I'd suggest using it.

Chirp does not support any DMR radio.
Apparently there is some limited support for the MD-380 in CHIRP, if not in mainline, in other places. But I don't know what the support level is. But yes, DMR is a very different animal and requires a different structure.

The Community Edition editor for the GD-77 is okay, not great, but okay. You can rearrange some stuff but a lot of it is in whatever order you enter it. I love editcp for the MD-380 though since it's so flexible and lets you order things and fix things others don't allow.

The difference between formats is akin to that of a flat-file database and a relational database. "Chirp" is designed to create a flat-file database, or in simpler terms a single line entry which is storable in a comma-delimited format (CSV) file.

Digital however relies on having multiple databases that are separate tables of information that are "related" to the other tables, something which Chirp simply was not designed to handle given that every stinking DMR radio has a noticeably different method of "relating" those databases!
