I got out of flying models planes back in the 80s and recently found a box of my old left-overs. Some transmitters, receivers, servos, engines and the hull of an air-boat that I never finished. So I went online to order a few parts to finish the air-boat that I started back in the 80s. Well, one thing led to another and I bought an RC plane to get me back into the swing of things. It is a Miss 2 balsa kit; an electric plane with a little more than 4 foot wing-span. While buying a new transmitter and other items, I ended up buying more than I needed to save on shipping. Long story short, I ended up buying a Taranis Plus transmitter, the parts to build a Spektrum module for the Taranis bay, a Blade CP S and Blade 230S helicopters. I traded a fellow ham my BCD436HP for a Blade 350 QX2 with a Go-Pro camera and it flew like a dream; that is until last night. Apparently, either one of the props or the motor mount shattered and it crashed to the ground from about 400 feet. You can hear the prop hitting the body while it tumbles to its death and then you can see the drone flashing in the background as the camera broke away from the craft when it hit the ground. Parts are on order to fix it back up. This is more addicting that radios/scanning.

So, it the mean time, I've been flying my other small helicopter and drone around the house. Can't wait to build the Miss 2. Who else is doing this stuff? I found out that I needed to register with the FAA, so I did that. It was $5 for three years and covers all of your models, which isn't bad. Once the QX2 is repaired, I'll post some more videos.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

I use a different covering scheme than the traditional yellow with red tail. I'm glad I went with this pattern as it was really easy to see in the sky.

I finished the external Spektrum module, so all of my aircraft are now using the Taranis.

I maidened the Miss 2 today and what an awesome little plane! It was a little windy, which tipped her over when trying to take off in the grass, so I hand launched her into the wind. Very easy to control, even in 10 MPH gusts. She pretty much landed herself. I did three flights and even pulled off a loop on the last one before the wind got too bad. Now, I'm looking for the next build. I'm not much into 3D or fast flying, so I'm going to stick with the Old-Timer designs, at least for now.

I have a Phantom 4 drone that I've flown since last May. I've made over 230 flights. Prior to that I had a DJI Hexactopter. I flew that for two years.

I really like the phantom... Here's a 1 min 40 second video I made one day when we had very low clouds.... I was sitting in my back yard when I made it. I sped the video up quite a bit which makes it a little jerky... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1r3T-pgRYA&t=11s

We don't need to register drones in Canada. But the regs are still pretty strict. We're only allowed to go up 300 feet. I might have been at 500 when I made the above video.. But I can't be sure :) :)

Very nice! I got some video from the ground of the Miss 2, but you can't see much. I did get the 350 repaired and it is flying great. I'm using the Taranis Plus; it gives way more control than the DX4 that originally came with it. Glad I re-discovered the hobby.

The prop was broken in half, but so was the rest of the drone. Body was broken into several peices. It hit the ground pretty hard. It's fixed now though and Flies better than it did before the crash. The Taranis radio really makes a huge difference too.
